Frequently Asked Questions

What Styles do you compete in?

We have three teams that compete in pom, jazz and hip hop respectively.

Can I audition if I don’t have Much EXPERIENCE?

Of Course! We welcome anyone who is wanting to try, to try. We are going to be competitive so it will be work but who knows, you might be really good!

What is the commitment?

At this time, there will be practices once a week for approximately 2 hours per team with an additional 1 hour training session (technical and conditioning) depending on what team you are on. You will be required to work out and work on your skills on your own time outside of practice as well.

When are the Auditions?

Auditions for all three teams will be at the end of August.

Do I have to be a Full Time Student?

Yes, you will have to be taking at least three classes (full time student; 2 classes if you are registered with AES) at the University of Saskatchewan to be on the team.

Do you have any Conflicts of interest with Other Teams?

Nope! If you are taking other dance classes or are on other sports teams or dance teams, it does not matter to us as long as you can keep up with the commitment levels of all of your activities and will be present both physically and mentally at practices and competitions.

Is there a Minimum Age or an age cap?

No, as long as you are a full time university student at the U of S, it doesn't matter if you are 17 or 27+.

Do we have to maintain a minimum average to be on the team?

No, there is no required average to maintain while being on the team. Although, you should still do your homework and go to class.

Is there a cap for the amount of years you can be on the team?

Nope! We'll keep you for as long as you'll let us! Although, due to USSU club guidelines, we are required to keep a 75% undergraduate percentage.

What is the cost to be on the team?

Successful dancers will get the detailed team fees and detailed competition fees once the competition schedule has been finalized. . As we do not receive any funding from the university, we rely on team fees to pay for the expenses. We try our best keep costs as low as possible but due to the nature of use being a university team, we do travel nationally and sometimes internationally to compete which can be costly for some people. Team fees are generally around $1200 and we try our best to keep travel costs under $1250.

We do provide fundraising opportunities for dancers to use to cover the costs of teams fees and competition fees but we do recommend dancers start saving at the beginning of the year.

Can I Only Compete in One Style?

We have split the team in three competitive teams plus our field team, so there is a Competitive Street Dance only team & a Competitive Pom only team & a Competitive Jazz only team & our performance Field Team. This year we have decided to only allow crossovers between competitive teams for dancers who have previously been on our team. There will be opportunities for solos, duo/trio and small groups in different styles.
