2020/2021 Season Information - April 27th, 2020

The big question heading out of April and into May is, what is next season going to look like?? The coaches took some time to think about what we wanted next year to look like and what would be best for our program and with all this uncertainty, this is what we know currently.

COVID-19

Obviously, with things seeming to change daily in society surrounding the spread of COVID-19, it leaves us very unsure of what the actuality of our season will look like. We will do our best to keep everyone updated on changes in our season as they happen. As of right now, it looks as though we would be a part of Phase Four for Saskatchewan’s Re-Open plan which does not currently have a date.

POM & JAZZ ARE NOW THEIR OWN TEAMS

Yes, we have now expanded yet again! Our Pom & Jazz team has split to become two separate teams to give our program a total of three teams. This allows us to put the right amount of focus on each style of dance to allow for our dancers to excel accordingly.

AUDITIONS

Pom auditions will be held in early June, VIRTUALLY. This means that those who apply will be given a set time to log onto Zoom they will perform a set of required skills and a choreography combo to the coaches and the judges.

Jazz & Hip Hop auditions are set for the end of August and will be either Virtual or in person depending on the social distancing guidelines for that time. More information will come as it becomes available.

CROSSOVERS

There is now a Crossover application to be filled out if a dancer is wanting to be on multiple teams. Since we are moving to three teams we want to ensure that dancers wanting to be on multiple teams understand the commitment level and will not be spreading themselves too thin therefore hindering their performance. Dancers wanting to apply for multiple auditions must fill out the application form for all the teams they are wanting to be a part of as well as the crossover application.

PRACTICE TIMES

We do not have exact dates and times at the moment for practices but we will be moving to having them during the week. We will give exact times before students are required to pick their classes so hopefully yo can plan your schedule accordingly.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Each coach has pegged their top three things they would like from dancers to create the best possible team.

Jazz: Brogan is looking a technical dancer. Excellent turns, jumps, kicks and splits. He is also looking for dancers with impressive skills and tricks such as aerials, back handsprings or unique jumps and turns. The ideal dancer would also pick up choreography quick. This way, the team has the potential to multiple dances.

Hip Hop: Ilaria is looking for performance value. Someone who not only smile but can get into the character of the song and make their performance believable. Having an obvious background in hip hop training. Her choreography can be very challenging for someone who has never done hip hop before. Finally, any tumbling or breaking skills are an asset.

Pom: Jill is looking for the required skills to be done with excellence. These are the basis for most of the routine. She wants dancers who are able to do them well and with ease. Similar to Hip Hop, performance value. Dancers who use facials and not just smile. Finally, dancers who are driven. That push to want to be better in all aspects.
